The result showed that only 26 percent of the students (respondents) indicated that they use social media for academic purpose. To carry out this experiment I would be send out as an anonymous survey asking about how much time a person spends on social media a week and then ask what their current gpa is. INTRODUCTION 1. 1 Background of the Study The report was written to gauge and identify the consumption of caffeinated beverages among tertiary students. It has been observed that some students drink caffeinated beverages and after it has become a habit among students. This report identifies the short term and long term effects of taking caffeinated beverages and determines why these students are reluctant to stop consumption of these caffeinated beverages. This report was requested by Madam Asha Latha B. S on 19th September 2012. 1. 2 Statement of the Problem The meaning of â€Å"caffeinated beverage† is â€Å"a drink that contains caffeine. † Coffee is the most common one. Black, green and white tea also contain caffeine. Some sodas have caffeine added to them (Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, for instance), as do many energy drinks. There are variety reasons why people like drinking caffeinated beverages. Many folks have coffee to help wake up in the morning. College students are known for knocking back coffee and caffeinated sodas to keep them up for studying the night before a big test. In some studies, caffeine has been shown to help concentration and memory. Too much consumption can increase person nervousness. If they drink cheap coffee that’s made with robusta beans instead of 100% arabica beans, they may suffer stomach problem. However, nowadays, most tertiary students are consuming these beverages. C affeine products are so widely distributed these days that abuse of the substance may be unnoticed. In fact, caffeine is the world’s most widely consumed stimulant, with 54 percent of adults in America consuming on average three cups of coffee a day (Chen and Parrish, 2008). Diet Health Club on September 2011 identifies these beverages as: Any drinks which contain caffeine. This caffeine is a stimulant that is legal and is one of the most popular stimulants in the world especially among the developed countries. Some of the common caffeinated content beverages include teas, coffees, various kinds of energy drinks and soft drinks. Tea and coffee are found to naturally have caffeine. Whereas some of the popular drinks like cola have intentionally used this caffeine stimulant as one of the ingredients. The relationship between an individual’s amount of caffeine consumption during his/her study session and the individual’s study habits were investigated by Hope (2009). Most of the students revealed their personal consumption of caffeine as well as their study habits when preparing for a test or examinations. As determined by the researcher, it has been hypothesized that the more the caffeine a student consumes while studying, the more accurately his or her study habits would be labelled as ‘unhealthy’. To keep them ‘up’ for late night sessions, many college students rely on caffeine-packed sodas and coffee drinks which will increase vigilance, sadly this is unhealthy. A research by the (â€Å"National Council On Strength and Fitness), it shows that caffeinated beverages have become gradually more accepted within the diets of tertiary students. That shows the consumption of caffeinated beverages can cause long-lasting effects on brain function when utilized during the formative years. However drinking too much of caffeine can cause health problems or side effects to drinkers. Some side effects from caffeine use can be mere irritation. Others are downright dangerous. For smokers, caffeine can be especially harmful. Nicotine will raise blood pressure and increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. This is because caffeine is the drug used in the world and is part of everyone’s daily life-style, it has gone unnoticed as a potentially harmful substance to most people’s health. An article â€Å"Caffeine Awareness Association†(2010) also indicates that excessive coffee drinking can increase a person’s risk of heart attack. Thus, caffeine can also cause irregular heart rhythms. And some researchers believe it can increase a woman’s chances of getting cancer. Caffeine has also been linked with central nervous system disorders, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, and incontinence. The medical community has recently taken caffeine withdrawal quite seriously. It is estimated that one in eight people will experience symptoms that will interfere with ability to work or function for at least a couple of days. Jordan (2004), suggested including caffeine withdrawal as a verifiable condition in the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). However, caffeine withdrawal is seldom dangerous, though it can make one uncomfortable for a few days. The most frequent symptom ssociated when we attempt to stop caffeinated beverages is moderate to severe headaches. This can occur between 12 and 24 hours after the last intake of caffeine. It usually lasts for one to two days, though some may have a headache for longer. Furthermore, according to Lee (200 6), drinking too much of caffeine will impact one negatively. It causes palpitations and withdrawal systems that include headache and drowsiness. Tertiary education often requires students to study for extended hours, especially during periods of increased workload prior to tests and examinations. Removing caffeine from one’s daily routine can be done by approaching the task of lowering the intake of caffeine. Switching to a coffee with less caffeine and checking labels on medications are the approaches to gradually reduce the amount of caffeine consumption for each day, (â€Å"Fit Day†, n. d). According to Haupt (2012), suggests go for an espresso shot because it contains only about half the amount of caffeine as a cup of regular coffee. 3. 0 METHODOLOGY AND LIMITATIONS 20 respondents were chosen randomly. The respondents were required to answer a questionnaire. These questionnaires were distributed on ______ and collected on ____. Data was collected and analyzed using a basic frequency analysis that was derived from Microsoft Excel software. Various secondary sources and materials were also looked into as differences and guides. Although this research was carefully prepared, there were still limitations and shortcomings. This report was done on a small scale involving 20 respondents. Since the population was small, the findings presented may not be applicable as general representations. To do so a large sample would be required. The period given to conduct and complete this report was 11 weeks only. Background information for the report was limited to articles from various websites. 4. 0 FINDINGS 4. 1 RESPONDENTS’ GENDER [pic] Figure 4. 1 The pie chart in Figure 4. 1 shows the gender who consumed caffeinated beverages. The gender is divided into two categories which are females and males. Based on the pie chart, it shows that the percentage of females who consume caffeinated beverages among tertiary students is higher than males where by females involve 70% and male 30% only. 4. 2 AGE OF TERTIARY STUDENTS [pic] Figure 4. 2 The table in Figure 4. 2 shows the age of the respondents who consume caffeinated beverages. It shows that the age of 19 – 21 years old has the highest no of respondents at 12 respondents while the age of 30 – 32 years old has the lowest number of respondents at 1 respondent only. 4. 3 TERTIARY STUDENTS WHO CONSUME CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES [pic] Figure 4. 3 The diagram above shows the number of students from universities that consume caffeinated beverages. It shows that University Technology Mara has the highest no of respondents who consume caffeinated beverages among all tertiary students at 9 respondents. The lowest numbers of respondents who consume caffeinated beverages are tertiary students for University Malaya at only 3 respondents. 4. 4 NUMBER OF RESPONDENTS WHO CONSUME CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES [pic] Figure 4. 4 The pie chart above shows the number of respondents who consume caffeinated beverages. It shows that 20 respondents answered â€Å"yes† in this questionnaire. 4. 5 TYPES OF CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES [pic] [pic] Figure 4. 5 Figure 4. 5 shows the types of caffeinated beverages that are taken by tertiary students. According to the chart, tea is the highest for the types of caffeinated beverages at 52% followed by coffee at 25% and sodas at 25%. Sodas are divided into four types which are Coke at 23%, Pepsi at 59%, Mountain Dew at 10% and others at 9%. 4. 6 FREQUENCY OF TERTIARY STUDENTS DRINKING CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES IN A WEEK [pic] Figure 4. 6 Figure 4. 6 shows the frequency tertiary students drink caffeinated beverages. Based on the chart above, it shows that 40% of tertiary students drink caffeinated beverages 2 – 4 times in a week. 25% of tertiary students drink it once a week, 20% drink it every day and only 10% of the tertiary students drink it 5- 6 times in a week. 4. 7 AWARENESS OF THE CONTENTS OF CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES [pic] [pic] Figure 4. 7 Figure 4. shows the awareness of the contents of such beverages by tertiary students. According to the chart, it is clear that most students are aware of the contents of caffeinated beverages since 64% answered so. Another 36% of tertiary s tudents are not aware of the contents of such beverages. Therefore, for those who are aware of the contents in caffeinated beverages, the results show that 41% realise the sugar, 23% know of their preservatives, 9% the colouring and 27% the caffeine contents. 4. 8 ADDICTIVENESS TOWARDS CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES [pic] [pic] Figure 4. 8 Figure 4. 8 shows the addictiveness towards caffeinated beverages by tertiary students. From the chart above, it is clear that 55% of the tertiary students are not addicted to caffeinated beverages. Only 45% of tertiary students are addicted to caffeinated beverages. When they are addicted to caffeinated beverages, most of them control addiction by carrying with plain water (60%), followed by 30% who revert to de-caffeinated beverages and 10% who resort to junk food / fast food. 4. 9 REASONS WHY RESPONDENTS CONSUME CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES [pic] Figure 4. 9 Figure 4. 9 illustrates the reasons why respondents consume caffeinated beverages. Firstly, 8 out of 20 respondents say they find caffeinated beverages tasty. Next, 30% of the respondents consume such beverages because find them inexpensive. respondents ranked they find caffeinated beverages convenient. Moreover, no respondents ranked finding such beverages inexpensive or tasty. Meanwhile, 40% of the respondents rank they follow their friends as the reason why they consume caffeinated beverages. 4. 10 THE CONSEQUENCES I F THE RESPONDENTS CUT DOWN CAFFEINATED BEVEREAGES [pic] Figure 4. 10 Figure 4. 10 shows the percentages of the consequences if the respondents cut down on caffeinated beverages. 60% of the respondents will feel sleepy if they cut down their consumption on such beverages. Meanwhile, only 10% of them feel moody after they reduced their intake. None of them feel sick easily if they cut down their consumption. History of the Patient This is a cases study of Mr Knight, aged 35 years old male, who was admitted in the health facility with complains from dysphagia and weakness throughout the body. His medical history is negative with no record of previous surgical procedures. The patient was well till 3 months when he started to develop general weakness and sleep apnea, with dysphagia and experiencing difficulty in swallowing. Upon admission, he was taken through blood investigation, with CBC, ABGs reflecting normal values, the CXR showed no abnormalities. The brain showed mass lesion in the 4th ventricle which was diagnosed with brain tutor. Upon this discovery, the patient underwent craniotomy procedure. Post operation status was that the patient was admitted in the ICU mechanical ventilation, with physical signs showing he was a wake, while spontaneously opening the eyes. The progress was positive on the next day with improvements on the limbs signifying 5/5 limbs. Comprehensive Nursing Assessment Integrating Pathophysiology The patient was taken through physical examination, whereby his head temperature was at 30 degrees, with key vital signs depicting temperature of 95.5degress F, while BP was of 130/79mmHG, pulse of 63, respiratory rate of 25 and oxygen saturation at 97%. His Glasgow coma scale was at 14, with dense left hemi paresis. There was occurrence of generalized symptoms of unconsciousness with mild headache with vomiting. The patient exhibited seizures similar to mild stroke. There was presence of binocular blindness, facial drop and aphasis. Other symptoms depicting subarachnoid haemorrhage included sudden onset of severe headache with vomiting and nausea. The physical signs on vital organs such as the heart, lungs and other extremities showed exacerbation. Altered level of conscious was also evident from the patient with signs of semi coma. This is associated with hemorrhagic stroke, which is often caused by the increased intracranial pressure. Subarachnoid haemorrhage can occur among patie nts without signalling any signs. It has devastating effects on the patient state, (Van, Kerr Rinkel, 2007). The physiological process that the patient exhibited altered levels of blood pressure, body temperature, blood glucose and blood oxygen saturation, (de Rooiji et al., 2007). The impacts this changes have on stroke have an impact on stroke and blood haemorrhage related factors. Thus the limits for offering treatments to these level of treatment incorporate well elaborated physiological variables process. Evaluation of Nursing intervention/Management Strategy As a practising nursing practitioner, I administered the insertion of external ventricular drain. It is termed as the most common and important lifesaving technique often encountered in the neurological care unit, (Lo et al., 2007). This technique has been applied in brain injury such as intracranial haemorrhage, brain injury and meningitis. These conditions have been closely linked to .intracranial hypertension above 20 mmHg related to the obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid, (CSF) Upon closer examinations, the production of CSF was estimated at higher than 500-6000mL normal levels, (Loiselle et al., 2012). The fluid is often circulated in the ventricular system into the subarachnoid space and then taken into the nerves. There often exists equilibrium between the production and at levels of production and absorption. The disruption of this balance leads to intracranial hypertension with acute hydrocephalus, condition of excess fluid in the part of the CSF space in the brain lobe, (Sl azinski et al., 2011). Thus nursing intervention treatment of EVD, was evident to offer medical help and assistance to this patient. EVD administration aided on reduction of intracranial hypertension through diversion of CSF and the intravenous blood, which allows continuous intracranial pressure which helped in the resuscitation of these patient in the ICU bed, (Sarrafzedeh, Smoll Schaller, 2014). When i had determined the needed height of the collection system, the EVD management remained to be a crucial activity. As a effective approaches in nursing management, there is need to adjust the height so that the transducer is nil in the Forameno of Monro. I had to adjust the drip so that it reaches the desired height. This way the CSF will be in a position to drain the intraventricular pressure, (Hunn et al., 2014). As a way of ensuring cleanliness i, ensured that the EVD collection is obtained and rinsed using clean detergents and using sterile technique to avoid risks. As a way of ensuring sober recovery, i ensured the vitals and signs and symptoms are always checked for any intracranial hypertension. Environmental Considerations and Family The environmental surrounding the admission of the patient to the ICU units and the surgical process to be initiated for the patient is often stressful to the patient and the family members, (Benarroch , 2006). Often when admitted to ICU units have always been viewed as crisis moment for both the patient and their families. Thus mental preparedness is always the key aspect in managing the patient affairs. Having loved ones in the intensive care units is often helpful and triggers changes in the family roles and shift in responsibilities roles, (Rincon et al., 2014). Often the fear of death and permanent disability has always been the fears of the family towards managing the patient. In this case study, the family of this patient was so worried and being unsure of what might take place with their patient in the facility upon the EVD process, (Guerra et al., 2017). These feelings of fear can trigger panic among the family members. The family often experiences feelings of high anxiety and insecurity which often leads to increased stressful circumstances. These events lead are catapult by the presence of the huge medical equipments and machines often employed in managing the patients. This scenario often affects the patient recovery process and dampens confidence of easy recovery. Family members have been found to experience difficulty in managing the stress and painful emotions and have often resorted to maladaptive coping strategies. At this juncture the patient family was forced to make decisions regarding the process of treating and managing the patient. This was significant in that it raised the stress levels of the patient. The nurses on the other hand play crucial role in managing the patient. As a nurse my role in being constantly managing the patient, was very crucial. My role in helping the patient was very crucial in helping even the parents to make certain decisions which are not in the capacity. As much as nurses being in a position to help and manage such situations, the needs of the family members are often neglected. The experiences of the nurses on the psychological needs they often encounter are enormous. Nurses and families have different priorities in terms of the needs and the psychological needs of the families are often critical, (Li, Gao, Wei and Wang, 2016). In health care practice, the health professionals are not well conversant with the needs of the patients. The knowledge that most health care professionals are not in a position to ensure that patients outcomes are improved, (Bijitterbier et al., 2001). Health care practitioners, I included as a nurse need to ensure that families are supported during the most needed time especially during the crisis moments. Thus meeting their immediate needs will often reduce the effect of the disease in both families and the health care system. The need to support the family to clarity of roles is essential in helping them gain confidence in the health care system. There is need to be aware of the treatment plan offered to their kin, which may have an effect on enhancing confidence among family members team. As much the anticipation from the family members has often been seen to reduce the tension and stress levels in the early phases of disease prognosis. Legal and Ethical Issues As a way of ensuring that there is informed consent on behalf of the patient, ensure that the family is clearly explained while the use of medical jargon and language. The information given must be in accordance with the patients rights and understanding. While ensuring that there is explanation for the need for the EVD, the reason for the EVD, the procedures it entails and length of EVD if placed. This is crucial in managing and building consensus for easier work during. As a way of ensuring that the patient information is kept in a non disclosed manner, there is need to ensure confidentiality in the nurse-patient relation. Often patients do share their information regularly. Failure to protect this crucial information from the patient will lead to diminish trust on the patient towards patient client relationship. The patient will thus be less likely to share sensitive information regarding this state. Creating an environment of trust among the different levels of care both the patient and nurse ensure the patient seek care and be honest as possible during the process of health. The duty of being confidential in health care practice is meant to ensure that the provider discloses that the information concerning the patient without permission and thus encourages the healt h care team to be more cautious and ensure unauthorised access. When family members seek the program of the patient, the obligality often dictates that they share the information of the patient. However the obligalities for sharing the information may not be met and thus if there is no explicit permission, t is always non ethical and non justifiable to do so, however this is exceptional in cases when the harm is significant and at high risks. Disclosures of patient information are often common and come in various ways. At times health care practitioner can discuss the status of the patient in places such as an elevator or in public. In which the act of maintaining privacy in these case is often hectic. Access to patient medical information by third parties is often prohibited. Thus the nurses have the responsibility of protecting this information in a comprehensive manner as much as possible. At times there comes a situation which you believe that the ethical and legal exception is often exception in confidentiality process. There is need to ensure the disclosure of the patient information can signify potential harm or damage which might be disastrous, thus there is need for critical care for patient privacy information. Avoidance of medical errors are often critical steps in these critical places. Especially when dealing with an EVD case, due diligence is needed as any medical error while facilitating nursing interventions puts the patient at jeopardy of death. There is an urgent need for preventing adverse effects which often include diagnosis, treatment and infection process. Research has put that 1% of hospitals admissions are happening due to adverse effects of negligence. Mistakes have led to immeasurable effects on the patient. The cost of these error management are often highly expensive and thus puts the health care practice of anyone at jeopardy, the impact it has on the nursing practice is so immense in that, there is need to avoid such errors as they are costly and have negative impacts. Thus with this view, there is need for comprehensive approach when dealing with patients. The nursing practice they receive should be geared towards promoting the health and positive outcome. In the case study, that patient diagnosed with EVD, has been successfully been managed to ensure the applied nursing practice management care is essential and productive. The management and intervention of managing the patients is crucial which entails the traits of being diligent and hard working. The environmental factors which surround the patient often play a crucial role in the overall care process for the patient. As a nursing practitioner, there is need to ensure that all guidelines are adhered to and minimising the legal and ethical issues as to pertaining the patients is followed. Sumerian Views Of Death Civilization is defined as ?a state that binds people together to transcend tides of family, clan, tribe, and village.? (Woolf, H.B., 1974, p.141) By using this definition, one can compare and contrast the many different traits that the Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations had. Both The Epic of Gilgamesh and the three Egyptian funerary documents are very good examples of written documents that show these two differences in civilization. The Epic of Gilgamesh is a long narrative poem which shows the many trials set before a young hero. (Andrea, A.; Overfield, J.H., 1998, p.8) This epic was discovered on twelve clay tablets in the remains of a library dated back to the seventeenth century before Christ. (Andrea, A.; Overfield, J.H., 1998, p.8) Within this epic, the reader will get an idea of how the Sumerians lived and communicated within their community. Similarly, the Egyptian traits of civilization can be explained when the Coffin Texts are analyzed. The three funerary documents, which will be discussed later, were found written inside wooden coffins of people could who afford expensive funerals. (Andrea, A.; Overfield, J.H., 1998, p.18) Many of these writing concentrated on death and disaster, and the miseries and fears that are associated with it. These three writings are also very helpful by giving the reader a very descriptive overview of how the Egyptian civilization worked. Although these four documents were written in different locations, they show many similarities and differences in traits of civilization, and thoughts on the afterlife. The Epic of Gilgamesh is known as one of the greatest works of literature from the time of the Mesopotamian Era. (Andrea, A.; Overfield, J.H., 1998, p.8) The hero, Gilgamesh, was the ruler of the city-state Uruk from 2700 to 2500 B.C. He was also very well known for his building of massive walls and temples. (Andrea, A.; Overfield, J.H., 1998, p.8) His epic follows the basic theme of the humans struggle with immortality. Although Gligamesh is known as being ?two-thirds a god and one-third human?, he must face death someday. (Andrea, A.; Overfield, J.H., 1998, p.8) As the epic begins, it is clear that the people of Uruk are distressed at the fact that Gilgamesh is not yet aware of his duties as king. Enkidu is sent down from the heavens in response to the people's cries for help. When Enkidu and Gilgamesh fight in a contest of strength and fighting skill, Gilgamesh wins, and the two heroes unite and set out on a series of adventures. In the midst of their adventures, Ishtar states tha t a life is owed because of an insult said towards him. Enkidu is chosen to die, and he is going to be brought to his fate. Within his time of waiting, he tells Gilgamesh of a vision he had of ?the land on no return?. Within this story, the reader is presented with many different facts of how the Sumerians viewed the afterlife. It will become quite evident that the Egyptians view of the afterlife was fairly similar, but in some way was considerably different. The Coffin Texts were the Egyptians equivalence to the Sumerians epics, because they also give a very distinctive explanation of how their people viewed the afterlife. These Coffin Texts were modeled from the earlier Pyramid Texts, which included many details about the many dangers of earth. (Andrea, A.; Overfield, J.H., 1998, p.18) This writing also included the many feelings that the Egyptians had on the topic of the terrors of death. The Coffin Text is yet another short piece of work that is written in a two-part speech. In this writing, the sun god and the deceased speak upon the topics of good deeds and eternal life. Similarly, ?Negative Confession? is taken from The Book of the Dead, and contains writing upon the topic of death. (Andrea, A.; Overfield, J.H., 1998, p.19) In this story, the deceased proclaims his purity to forty-two minor deities, who are set to judge the deceased's fittingness to become an eternally blessed spirit. The History of Babylonian Mathematics The history of ancient Babylonia is really long, but this essay is a short and to the point summery of the entire history. The history of Babylonia started near the end of the year 2000 BC, when invaders were attacking the Sumer kingdom. Sumer was a powerful kingdom in the western part of Asia, and it some what occupied what would become Babylonia. After the kingdom of Sumer was destroyed the city-states of Larsa and Isin came into settle on the land once occupied by Sumer. This led to fighting between Larsa and Isin. After hundreds of years of fighting Larsa defeated Isin. But, just as Larsa beat Isin, Hammurabi came to power in the city of Babylonia. Hammurabi went on to defeat Larsa and start a vast kingdom in the place where the Sumer kingdom used to be. Hammurabi was a very powerful military and political leader. Also he set up a code of law stating â€Å"an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth†, this law is called the Hammurabi code and is still used today. Hammurabi’s dynasty was also called the First Dynasty of Babylonia. This dynasty ruled for about 200 years until 1530 BC. Under the control of this dynasty, Babylonia entered a period of prosperity and peace. The Babylonians developed an abstract form of writing based on wedge-shaped symbols. Their symbols were written on wet clay tablets that were baked in the hot sun. Many of thousands of these tablets have survived to this day. They had to use straight lines because curved line could not be drawn in the wet clay. They used these tablets to aid in the calculations of problems. They studied math with the help of these tablets. They studied in mathematics because having a peaceful nation they had no need to specialize in military and warfare, so they learned math and discovered new forms of math. A tribe known as the Kassites began to attack Babylonia when Hammurabi’s son ruled the empire. Over the centuries, the Kassites weakened Babylonia. Finally, around 1530 BC a Kassite dynasty was set up in Babylonia. After about 150 years, the Babylonians and the Kassites lived in peace until the Assyrians attacked Babylonia. They weakened Babylonia so much that the Kassite dynasty fell from power and the Assyrians took control. Because of an influx of many nomadic tribes, Babylonia fell into anarchy for about 200 years. During the 800s B... ...e. And if their table of reciprocals, which was used to help them do math, was used today, it would most likely confuse everybody. But, back then they had to use because they did not have calculators or computers to make math easier. We also don’t use a positional number system where the base is 60 rather than the base of 10. One thing that the Babylonians used that is still in use today is the Pythagorean triples. The study of math he study of math is important because with out math we wouldn’t have all the things we have today, such as computers, cars, planes, space exploring technology, etc. With out math all that stuff, which we take for granted would not be around. We would still be in the dark ages if people with a great understanding for math hadn’t been there to invent new things and pull us out of the dark ages and into the techno age. Even though I may not me a mathematical genius, I realize that with out math I would have to write my whole report out on hand instead of a computer. I could not play my video games or chat online with friends if it wasn’t for math and the understanding of it. The study of math is important to society and probably always will be.

Men Are Better Leaders Essay

Women in high-level leadership positions, such as corporate CEOs, when studied, seem to exhibit the same sorts of leadership behaviors as their male counterparts. That is probably because the demands of the leadership role require certain actions and behaviors to succeed. In addition, because of the hurdles that women must leap to get to the top (leadership and gender expert, Alice Eagly, refers to this as the â€Å"labyrinth† that women, but not men, need to go through), it could be the case that only women who exhibit the same sorts of leadership styles and behaviors as male leaders make it through. So, studying leaders at the top, gives the impression that there are no big differences in how men and women lead. You get a somewhat different picture if you ask followers and leaders about male and female leaders. They notice differences that are in line with stereotypes about men and women, reporting that female leaders are more nurturing, empathic, and responsive than male leaders, but they will also report the negative side (e. g. , moody). Male leaders, on the other hand, are perceived to be more action-oriented and more focused on tasks. As a Catalyst study concludes that according to leaders and followers in the workplace, â€Å"women leaders take care, men leaders take charge. † Realize, however, that this involves people’s perceptions of leaders, colored by stereotypes and expectations. Finally, there is a growing body of research that has studied the leadership styles and leadership â€Å"potential† of men and women, typically men and women managers (but also women in non-managerial positions). For example, using the theory of transformational leadership as an indicator of successful leadership (transformational leaders are inspirational, positive role models, concerned about followers, empowering, and push followers to be creative and take chances), research shows that women, as a group, have more transformational qualities than men. In other words, and based on this research, women have more leadership potential and tend to lead more effectively than men (I discussed this in an earlier post). So, what are the implications? Well, as attitudes about women leaders change (they are changing, albeit ever so slowly) and the â€Å"labyrinth† becomes less difficult to navigate, we expect more to women attain high-level leadership positions. Noted leadership scholar, Bernard Bass, predicted that by the year 2034 the majority of high-level leaders will be women, based on their more transformational qualities. Of course, men in leadership positions are also realizing that the old way of leading – taking charge (command and control) – may not be as effective in today’s world and in the future, so they learn to adapt and change how they lead.

Cà ³mo saber si un migrante est detenido por la migra Para saber si un inmigrante est detenido por Inmigracià ³n en Estados Unidos hay que partir del hecho de que no hay listados de detenidos, sin embargo se puede seguir una estrategia buscar y encontrar los nombres de los migrantes en custodia y en quà © prisià ³n estn. En este artà ­culo se explica cà ³mo funciona la base de datos del ICE, la agencia del gobierno encargada de detener a migrantes y que sirve para confirmar si la persona que se busca est detenida y, en caso afirmativo, dà ³nde. Asimismo, se informa sobre quà © hacer cuando el nombre de la persona que se busca no aparece y cuando es necesario contratar a un abogado. Finalmente, se hace una referencia al tiempo que un migrante puede permanecer detenido, a las condiciones de los centros de detencià ³n y cà ³mo buscar a un detenido en una prisià ³n federal o local por un asunto diferente a migracià ³n. Cà ³mo saber si un inmigrante se encuentra detenido por la migra ICE mantiene una base de datos donde puede se puede buscar a las personas que se sospecha han sido detenidas por inmigracià ³n. Puede elegirse el idioma en la parte superior derecha donde pone select a language y con la flechita escoger espaà ±ol, si asà ­ se desea. Es una pgina segura de utilizar donde aplican unos criterios fuertes de confidencialidad. Es decir, a la persona que busca no se le pide ningà ºn dato ni que se identifique o registre de ninguna manera ni tampoco se guarda informacià ³n sobre computadora o IP desde la que se realiza la bà ºsqueda. La primera es la conocida como por nà ºmero de extranjero (A-Number)  que es un nà ºmero que tienen tanto los residentes permanentes legales (RPL) como todo migrante que ha tenido contacto con migracià ³n, ya que es el nà ºmero con el que se le identifica. Por ejemplo, es un nà ºmero que aparece tambià ©n en los permisos de trabajo conocidos por sus siglas en inglà ©s de EAD. La segunda bà ºsqueda est reservada para todos los dems inmigrantes, es decir, cuando no tienen ese nà ºmero o no se sabe  y se conoce como  bà ºsqueda  por informacià ³n biogrfica. En estos casos es necesario el nombre, apellido y paà ­s de nacimiento de la persona que se desea encontrar. Tambià ©n ayuda conocer su fecha exacta de nacimiento, aunque à ©ste es un dato que no es necesario. Sà ­ puede ser muy conveniente porque hay nombres y apellidos muy comunes, como por ejemplo Juan Garcà ­a o Josà © Rodrà ­guez, y pueden aparecer varias personas con el mismo nombre, y no ser ninguna la que se busca. No se puede encontrar en este sistema a la persona que han dado un nombre falso, a menos que quien la busca sepa cul es. Si aparece el nombre de la persona que se busca, se sabr donde est detenida. Buscar la pgina de internet del centro e informarse sobre las reglas para recibir llamadas, llamarla o enviarle dinero o cosas y seguir las instrucciones. Personas que no estn incluidas en la base de datos del ICE De los siguientes detenidos no se encuentra informacià ³n: 1.  Menores de 18 aà ±os. 2.  Inmigrantes que han sido puestos en libertad hace ms de 60 dà ­as. En este caso estn incluidas las personas que pueden haber sido deportadas o han salido del paà ­s voluntariamente. Tener en cuenta que las personas recià ©n detenidas pueden demorarse unos dà ­as en aparecer en el sistema. Adems las personas que utilizan nombres falsos aparece con estos, por lo que es necesario conocerlos. Por à ºltimo es posible que los apellidos o el nombre està ©n mal deletreados. Es recomendable en estos casos intentar varias opciones a la hora de escribir un nombre, si con la forma correcta no aparece el que se busca. Cà ³mo obtener de ERO informacià ³n sobre migrantes detenidos Si un migrante del que se sospecha que est detenido no aparece en la base de datos del ICE se puede checar con el oficial de migracià ³n del ERO. Cabe destacar que solamente la familia de un inmigrante detenido o sus representantes legales pueden tener acceso a esa informacià ³n. Para ello deben dirigirse a la oficina del ICE encargada de Ejecucià ³n Legal y Operaciones de Expulsià ³n (ERO, por sus siglas en inglà ©s), que es la responsable de ese caso inmigratorio. Si no sabe exactamente quà © oficina lleva el asunto, puede contactar con la que crea que ha podido iniciar el caso, por ejemplo, la que corresponda a su lugar de domicilio, si es que vivà ­a en Estados Unidos. Si se trata de un inmigrante que acaba de cruzar ilegalmente la frontera, ponerse en contacto con la oficina que corresponda al lugar por donde se crea que se ha hecho el cruce. Cundo es necesario un abogado para encontrar a una persona detenida por la migra Si un migrante del que se cree que est detenido por Inmigracià ³n no aparece en la base de datos del ICE y/o el oficial migratorio del ERO a cargo de un detenido se niega a dar informacià ³n de dà ³nde est, la solucià ³n es contratar a un abogado migratorio de buena reputacià ³n, que est habilitado para realizar la bà ºsqueda. Adems, un abogado puede ser siempre la mejor opcià ³n para solicitar que se fije una fianza para que el migrante està © libre mientras resuelven su caso o para decidir cul es la mejor estrategia legal. Frecuentemente los migrantes detenidos aceptan un arreglo de salida voluntaria pensando que es lo mejor, pero podrà ­an tener opciones realistas para otros alivios migratorios como por ejemplo un TPS, DACA para muchachos que llegaron a EE.UU. siendo nià ±os, asilo o cancelacià ³n de la remocià ³n. Cà ³mo visitar a una persona detenida por la migra Si al buscar en esta pgina web a un inmigrante encuentra que est â€Å"bajo custodia†, entonces selecciones â€Å"actual centro de detencià ³n†, donde se le dir dà ³nde est y quà © debe hacer para visitarlo, si asà ­ lo desea. Se recomienda que antes de emprender el viaje contacte directamente con el centro y confirme que la persona sigue allà ­ detenida.
